The first thing you want to do is get it in single mode. This way you
can start messing about but from there I'm not sure what you would
want to do.

To get into single mode hit escape when GRUB is loading to get to the
menu. Once there hit 'e' and navigate to the line that says kernel.
Hit 'e' again so we can add the word single to the end of the list of
options. After that hit 'b' and hope that it boots up.

Single mode has absolutely nothing running. No network, no printers,
etc. Since it sounds urgent you can do
`/etc/init.d/networking start` to get the network up then do
`apt-get remove samba cups`

Once we've gotten rid of some possible problems you can at least keep
working until we find a solutiong.
