wvdial catch-22?

I recently installed Ubuntu for a friend (20040915 build, IIRC.)  She didn't have her dialup settings handy during the install, so I figured we could do it later.  After the system was installed, I went to System Configuration > Network Settings and tried to set up ppp.  I complains that wvdial is required, but wvdial is not on the install CD!  Is there a workaround, or will I have to download wvidal and give her a disc?

It doesn't help that I've never set up ppp on any flavor of Linux before.  I was hoping it'd be automagic. :o)
