I had the same problem after installing Ubuntu. I had to stick in the Windows XP install CD, go to Recovery mode and do "fixboot" and "fixmbr." After that I had to re-install grub. I happen to have gentoo already installed on one of my other drives, so I popped in the gentoo livecd and installed grub from there. I edited the grub.conf (or menu.lst on Ubuntu's /boot/grub directory) and everything's been working OK.
