I have an Inspiron 4100, 1.2ghz. After a default install of Ubuntu
the laptop periodically freezes, freezes if I pull or plug in the
power. Does not suspend-to-ram when I shut the lid and some other
issues. All related to power management.

I built some custom 2.6.8.1 kernels attempting to remove acpi and use
apminstead (apm on OpenBSD works perfectly on this laptop). It still
periodically froze and apm just didn't act as expected.

I'm now using 2.6.7 (kernel.org) with apm and everything is working
really well. I haven't tried 2.6.7 with acpi yet.
