Question about root

I ran across a small problem with the system asking me for the root 
password. In System Monitor, when trying to 'nice' a process, it 
requires the root password. I didn't know what it was! So I launched a 
root terminal, ran "su root" and passwd'd the root account. Just an 
observation...
