First impressions with Ubuntu

Well, that's not enough because the sound volume applet controls the
"volume" channel by default. And changing the "volume" channel doesn't
change the actual output volume of my sound card. Only the "PCM2"
channel affects the sound volume. Consequently, it is impossible to
control the volume of my sound card, apart from going into the sound
volume applet's preferences and choosing "PCM2" instead of "volume".

Maybe a solution would be to "link" the volume, PCM and PCM2 channels so
that changes in one of the channels also affect the others... Or maybe
ALSA should be fixed so that the "Volume" channel always really controls
the volume.
