[Repost] Firewire Detection?

If it detected it, it would appear in Computer->Disks and a window would
popup.  I've seen this with my iPod, sometimes it is detected and
sometimes not.  If I boot with my iPod plugged in it is generally
detected and mounted for me, and restarting USB/hotplug also causes it
to be detected.
