Install to USB drive - Good news, bad news

Good news. The drive is detected.

Bad news. Patitioning tool doesn't show existing partitions. Curious 
considering it's an ext3 filesystem containing a Sarge mirror and some 
other goodies.

It warned me when I selected the drive. Hmm.

I switched to ALT-F2 and poked around with fdisk. Once I discovered 
where the disk hides, fdisk correctly shows the partition table,

The Ubuntu install disk is a daily build from 2-3 days ago.
