Ubuntu mono packages

I am not an expert in Linux, but followed the guide lines by adding it
to my sources.list file, running the update, but I am still getting
dependency errors when trying to install the packages

here is the command I am using:

sudo apt-get install mono

and here is what i get back

mono:
 Depends: mono-jit but it is not going to be installed or
        mono-mint but it is not going to be installed
 Depends: mono-utils but it is not going to be installed
 Depends: mono-mcs but it is not going to be installed
 Depends: mono-assemblies-arch but it is not going to be installed

See that you mentioned to enable universe in your sources.list this
might sound lame, but how do I do this?
