Mounting Samba shares on desktop

What is the easiest way of creating a shortcut to a samba share, or even 
better, mounting it as an icon on the desktop? This is more of a general 
Gnome question, but I suppose relevant nonetheless. It's too bad you 
can't just drag the shared folder to the desktop and have Gnome as you 
if you want to A) copy the files to the desktop or B) mount the folder ..
