Immediately after running "modprobe sungem" then running dmesg, I don't
see it finding anything about my network hardware.

The last lines reported by dmesg are:

drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.0:USB HID core driver
Linux Kernel Card Services
  options: [pci] [cardbus] [pm]
NET: Registered protocol family 10
Disabled Privacy Extensions on device c0236384(lo)
IPv6 over IPv4 tunneling driver
divert: not allocating divert_blk for non-ethernet device sit0
drivers/usb/input/hid-input.c: event field not found
