kde is in universe. In turn, this means that (1) it's not on the CD,
and (2) it requires changing sources.list to get it. The additional
issue right now is that much of kde is failing to build from source, or
(build-)depends on something that fails to build from source. I am in
the process of working through the kde packages in my spare time to get
to the point where you can 'apt-get install kde' on (at minimum) a warty
i386 machine with universe added to sources.list.
