For PCI modems, there's now an ALSA driver that does the kernel part of
the slmodem functionality - it ought to be automatically loaded on boot.
In that case, all you need is the slmodem userspace. It's in Debian non-
free as slmodem. Extra kernel support is still needed for usb modems.
