Hi Allen,

why do you need the VMWare-Tools?
I installed Ubuntu in VMWare yesterday and everything works without the
tools.
Mmh, nearly everything. I've never got to run the option to
copy-and-paste things from/to VMWare-guest to/from VMWare-host.
Of course I've tried it with installed tools and with supported Linux
distributions like SUSE Linux.
The xfree86-server brings a driver VMWare wich you should choose. You
can reconfigure your X with
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
The VMWare tools install a stupid XF86Config-4 in /etc/X11/ which never
has worked for me. You have to merge it in the working config.

I hope this helps you. For more details I have to install the tools myself.

Bye
Markus
