hdd install from loop mounted iso

I have downloaded the iso but here, where I am now, I
can't burn it. So my only option is to try a hdd
install on my laptop from the loop mounted iso. I
already have Debian sarge installed on my hard drive.
I figured out (roughly) the following steps:
1. loop mount the iso image
2. copy the ubuntu kernel and initrd from iso to /boot
3. edit grub's menu.list to add an "UbuntuInstall"
label that points to the ubuntu kernel and initrd
copied at step 2.
4. reboot, choose "UbuntuInstall" at the grub prompt
and install ubuntu.
r
Now the question is: does it makes sense to try all
this, is this type of install possible for ubuntu? I'm
not lazy, but if there is a known show stopper, I'd
rather spare my time and wait till I reach
civilisation again and burn the iso...

Cheers,
 Alex
