Can't get notebook to shutdown

Hi,

my notebook, an Acer TravelMate 630 does not shut down (switch off) when 
I run the init 0 command. It rather does a restart and I haven't got a 
clue why... Hope someone can help me out..

Btw.: During the installation of Ubuntu I got several times the "error" 
"serial8250: too much work for irq10" after the system installed (or did 
anything with) the xserver-xfree86. A bit of patience was enough and the 
system went on installing, but it's still rather confusing ;)
