Ubuntu with new self-compiled kernel

I have a strange problem with 2.6.9 kernel and Ubuntu distribution.
I've compiled new 2.6.9 kernel the way I was used on normal debian
linux with alsa and nvidia kernel module (nvidia-kernel-source
package) and everything looks pretty weird.

When I load nvidia kernel module I get this error in my 'dmesg'

nvidia: Unknown symbol __VMALLOC_RESERVE

and my sound card (SB Live! / emu10k1 module) in alsa doesn't work.
Any clues? When I was using debian unstable I had no problems at all.
I've also copied my old modconf for alsa and still .. no luck.
