Some of them never made it in even after a logout...x-mame and x-mess come
to mind, since I just found them as goodies in the multiverse. :D

Some do.  Gnucash filed itself under 'Other' and GnomeSword2 filed itself
under 'Applications' (or whatever the name of the first menu is).  However
others (Audacity) don't.  It seems you may need to logout/login to see the
updated menu.
