gtk-theme-switch

I have a wxPython application that I have run on Windows and am now
running it on ubuntu.  Visually, the application does not look very
good and I suspect that I need to change the GTK1 theme.  (The version
of wxPython is based on GTK1.)  I downloaded gtk-theme-switch but it
doesn't seem to do anything.  The gtk-theme-switch preview window
never changes its look (has the same unappealing appearance as my
wxPython application) no matter what theme I choose.  Any advice would
be appreciated.
