rhythmbox: hangs on loading radiostation

How long do you wait? I've seen Magnatune take up to a minute (on a 
decent connection) to buffer up. Have you had a chance to capture any 
network traffic between yourself and Magnatune?

I suspect your strace shows the app waiting for data from the network 
...
