installing UBUNTU

Hi there
 
I am a new LINUX user and I am trying to install ubuntu. The error message I
am getting is:
 
Your CPU does not support long mode. Use a 32bit distribution.
 
I am trying to install it on a P4 2.4 with 512RAM.
