Thanks - I would never have guessed "piix" on my own. But, now I can't
test if that fixed it because the CF card doesn't automount anymore.
I'll have to guess where the system put it - /dev/sdb1, sdc1, whatever.
I hate that.
Perhaps these errors I'm seeing on bootup will make sense to you and
suggest something: (not in this order, just cut and pasted from dmesg or
typed from memory)
Starting Common UNIX Printing System...
followed by:
usb 5-1.4.2: string descriptor 0 read error: -110
<this repeats many many times>
dmesg shows this, maybe related to above:
usb 5-1.4.2: control timeout on ep0in
usb 5-1.4.2: string descriptor 0 read error: -110
Device 'i823650' does not have a release() function, it is broken and
must be fixed.
"starting hotplug subsystem" takes about a minute or 90 seconds every
time - and my brother on a completely different system has the same
problem with this message ...
