USB Flash drive

I unstalled Ubuntu 4.1 RC last week and was impressed, it found my flash 
drive on one machine and the flash drive and card reader on the other.

Thought I could get use to Gnome as mostly I have used KDE and with 
other distros like Suse I have always had a problem getting the above to 
work right.

When I installed the release version on one of the same machines that I 
had tried the RC on it does not see the flash drive. The strange thing 
is during install I had the flas drive plugged in and it saw it there as 
   storage media. Now it will not see it. Before when I plufgged it in 
there would be an icon show up on the desktop for it.

Any ideas as why it quite working in the relases version?
