Creating more desktops and workspaces question

Right click on the Desktop pager (on the panel) -> Preferences -> Number
of desktops. If you don't have a pager on the panel, right click on the
panel -> Add to panel and add one first.

There is in KDE, not in GNOME AFAIK. It's presumably one of those
features that would confuse new users. That said, having different
images on every workspace did make switching desktops quite slow in KDE.
