VMware?

Yeah,
When you run vmware-config.pl it creates some device-files in /dev.
However they are removed the next time you reboot. because of udev.
The correct way to solve the problem is to tell the vmware guys about
how udev works. But until that happens, try this
reboot, list files in /dev, run vmware-config.pl compare /dev with the
list you just made. There you should find what vmware just created.
Now you have to find a way for udev to create these for you each time
you reboot the computer. This I know nothing about but I'm sure
someone here can help you better.
So, at least now you know WHY it happens, how to fix it well... try
google... sorry I can't help more
