i have yet to receive my Ubuntu CDs, but generally for linux systems
to be authenticated via LDAP all you need is the ldap pam and nss
libraries/software(?). then with ldap client, you should be able to be
authenticated via LDAP.

assume won't be too much different for Ubuntu.
