This information about Synaptic being different in features from apt-get
makes me confused and doubt myself :( In this (gone) summer, having
recently started to use Linux and thus (still) being a newbie, I decided
to use Synaptic for installing software. Before this choice and
afterwards too I read quite a lot about Synaptic - how it works and what
it does (mostly what I could find in newbie format).

One thing that I considered a fact after this studying was that Synaptic
is basically a front end for apt-get and gets it's features from there.
I read many how-tos, a lot of forum posts and even subscribed to
Synaptic mailing list and never got an impression of Synaptic being
something else than a well done front end for apt-get.

Now, after having seen all this trouble and realising that I haven't
even got the basics right, I don't know what to think about this. Do I
have a bad strategy for getting information? Do I tend to cook things up
myself, only loosely based on some facts? Am I stupid :) ... :( This is
somewhat frustrating.

I can't go back to all the writings and posts I have read about
Synaptic, because I have only a couple of them bookmarked. I do think
though, trying to remember many formum posts that I read, that there are
many others too that have the same misunderstandig as I do - that
Synaptic is a front end for Apt-get.

...sigh.
