bind9 troubles

I did a fresh install of bind9 today after coming from Debian, and using
my exact same config files in /etc/bind I get this error when restarting
bind9:

Stopping domain name service: named
rndc: connection to remote host closed
This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of
the command protocol, this host is not authorized to connect,
or the key is invalid.


This also happens even if I use a clean /etc/bind directory from the
install.

Also, it seems to still work resolving various addresses, but the data
in my own bind db files for my domains do not seem to resolve at all.
