X Freezes With Nvidia GLX Drivers

I have a ubuntu system (universe packages installed) with a GeForce MX 
440 that has TV out. I enabled TwinView so I could watch movies on my 
TV, which required the install of the nvidia-glx package. Even before I 
enabled the nvidia drivers I noticed that the system would freeze, all 
user input didnt work and the screen did not update, but the system was 
still up. I could ssh in and restart gdm and things would come back. I 
also noticed that nautilus wil crash somewhat regularly, possibly 
because I access a lot of data of mounted smb drives.

Has anybody else had similiar experiences and have any fixes for it??
