problem with bittorrent and bittornado

I can't seem to get either bittorrent or bittornado to work.  I've
tried installing and using each one (at different times; installing
bittornado seems to remove bittorrent).  In both cases, the
application did not show up inthe applications menu, and I was also
unable to run the program from a command line (I get "command not
found").  I also couldn't figure out any way to start them up by
opening a .torrent file that I had downloaded.

The installation process seemed to go alright for each program.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
