Running apps as root?

That's pretty much what I was getting at, except that as you say it
doesn't seem to work for this. If I try to run something as root, it
asks for the root password - this seems to be different from the sudo
password, is that right?

To my mind it would be ideal to have the option to right-click on an
application and select "Run as root", though I could see that might
introduce a multitude of security challenges.
