SDL problem - sound not working in SDL games unless...

Hi,

On an older release of Ubuntu I installed Tuxracer and it worked out of 
the box.

On the RC and final (just did an apt-get dist-upgrade, so do I have the 
final version?) I found that SDL sound in games had stopped working.

However, if I add this to .gcprofile:

    export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=dsp

- sound works fine in Tuxracer if I start it from a shell.

Starting tuxracer from the Application menu still results in no sound.

I have tried adding the line to /etc/profile but it doesn't make any 
difference.

Any ideas why this is happening, and how to fix it so that the menu 
launchers work?
