i had the same issue on a machine (p2 266) that had a collection of
ISA/PCI cards in it (ISA sound/ISA NIC/PCI NIC/onboard sound(PCI i
guess))
removing the interrrupt conflict by removing the ISA cards helped.
(i was too lazy to fiddle with the jumpers and the guy was fine with one
NIC and onboard sound)
