you must type the complete line before hitting return.

i.e. DEBUG_XFREE86_PACKAGE=yes
is assigning the value "yes" to the variable DEBUG_XFREE86_PACKAGE
so you are adding two "yes" values to two variables that are used by the
following command "dpkg-reconfigure" which itself is called with the
option "xserver-xfree86".

see, the complete line 5. is the command to be issued in one line ;)
