It never happed before. And Im using Linux from quite time.
Because Im still moving from Slackware to Ubuntu (I've failed to
install Ubuntu on my laptop, but this story will go to dev ML, because
I have some doubts about Ubuntu kernel;-), Im moving stuff from
Slackware disk (15gb IBM, 3 partitions in ReiserFS, 1 in vfat) to
Ubuntu disk (80Gb Seagate, 3 partition in ReiserFS).
Everything was quite ok. I've booted Slackware (or, it booted by
himself, because IBM's drive is still first to boot), login as root,
and mount disk where my /home lives. I moved some important stuff and
rebooted. GDM with cute human-art popup and I've passed my
login/password. GDM response was: Sorry, there's no /home/emil --
would you like assume that / is your home? WTF? I switched consoles,
and GMD didn't lie. My /home/emil was gone. I have no idea why this
thing happend. I've been using ReiserFS since 6 months and never
noticed something that misterious. It's more a warning post, rather
than rant on Ubuntu or Slackware. :-)
