On my iBook G4 this works out of the box by pressing F12 (just as in
MacOs). You have to keep it pressed for some seconds, though (you can
configure the delay, but this is the default).

Thanks for the info - sadly F12 acts as a right mouse click for me. I
can open my primary drive by assigning a key using the keyboard
shortcuts app but I cant see how to close this drive or open and close
the secondary drive.
