I'm a long time Debian and first time Ubuntu User, and although I'm
usually not the guy who sends mails to lists immediately after
subscribing to them, I'd like to voice my opinion on this one. Your
message was the first one I received from this list and it struck me
that it really is about the only point about Ubuntu that I'm not
entirely happy with.
The artwork with those happy young people really was the first thing I
got rid of after installing Ubuntu. I simply turned off the graphical
greeter, and since I don't use Gnome, I don't get to see the logon
progress screen as well.
Please don't take this as an offense anyone, but my personal opinion is
that these default background pictures are, well, silly. Some might say
that it's just because I'm somewhat older, fat and definitely more ugly
than those ladies and that gentleman, but I really can imagine why many
people wouldn't be overly happy with them. I've shown them to one of my
colleagues, and he also found them fairly ridiculous. And don't even get
me started on the muslim guy who I worked with on my last contract. I
highly doubt that he'd want to lgg into his Ubuntu box with his little
sister looking over his shoulder.
I highly appreciate the professional quality of these photographs, but
I'd also like to recommend a less catchy theme to be used as the default.
Apart from that, I'm very happy with the great work by Ubuntu. Debian on
every desktop, who would have ever believed it could happen?
Take care,
-martin
