Mail Notification

Is anyone else using Mail Notification? 

I downloaded it tonight and I'm using it to check my Gmail account. I
built it from sources.

All the libraries it looked for during the configure were found.

The only problem is it's icon keeps disappearing from the notification
area of my Gnome panel. The program appears to still be running in the
system monitor, but it's useless without the icon. You can't access
it!

Anybody else having better luck? 

If anybody is actually using a program to check their Gmail account
that is more stable, please let me know.
