Adding Fonts

I hit the ctrl-alt-backspace combination which restarts X, which I 
thought was necessary to get the fonts to show up.
But that is not the part that was failing, it was the actual drag and 
drop, when I drop, should the new font not show up in the Nautilus 
fonts:/// pane?
Or is it one of those things where you drag and drop, log out, log in 
and they will magically be there?
