Gnome making hard drive read-only

Hi,

I mount my home directory on a separate partition, and
I've noticed this strange bug with Gnome 2.8, at times, I cannot pin
point it down, but it makes my partition read-only, it seems to only do
it when I drag and drop things, for example it happens sometimes when I
drag files/folders to the cd burner and it happened just now when I used
the search facility to find some html files, I tried to drag what it
found from the search window to my desktop and it failed.

So I tried to create a folder and got a popup saying that it cannot make
it on a read-only file system. It also failed to open any programmes due
to the file system being read-only.

I've had this on Debian unstable gnome-2.8 from experimental as well, so
it would seem a gnome problem, and I've had this on another pc running
Ubuntu as well. the weird thing is I cannot see how anything has the
permission to make that partition read-only, and I'm logged in as a
normal user with the standard permissions.

This is the last message in my $HOME/.xsession-errors

Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1
Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1

If anyone can shed any light on this I would be very gratefull.

Mark
