Muting PC speaker

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a problem with my Dell Inspiron 600m, where no matter what I
do, I can't seem to mute the PC speaker. That is, I can control PCM etc
fine, but things like the console bell I seem to have no control over
the volume of.

It's using the intel8x0 module. lspci shows:
0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB (ICH4) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01)

Anyone have any ideas? I've tried going through alsamixer and the gnome
volume control, and muting every single source, but it doesn't seem to
make any difference. Ditto for selecting the global mute, or pressing
the mute multimedia button on the keyboard.
