Search bugzilla (component: linux) and see if you find any existing bugs
which match your symptoms first.  There are several such bugs there already.

Perhaps your other distros used 2.4 kernels, or did not have ACPI enabled by
default.  There are a number of differences in Ubuntu compared to other
distributions.
