Sound question(s)

Hi ,

i have UBUNTU install, up to date with the latest packages.
I do have 2 sound questions/problems

1) When i play a DVD there is no sound in other apps, that doesnt seem
to be normal.
2) Mixer doesnt work, and volume control neither

well, do not know exactly what sound chip i do have, its on board, i
guess its that i82.... guy

any help with these loesy infos?
