OpenOffice Data Sources

I've been unable to get OpenOffice to recognize my email address book as
a data source.  It wouldn't work with Evolution so I installed
Thunderbird with Synaptic.  When that didn't work I installed the
Mozilla suite with Synaptic but it didn't seem to have email
functionality so I downloaded directly from Mozilla. Still no luck.  Is
this some kind of file permission-ownership problem?
