Community response of new ubuntu artwork

FWIW, I personally like the images and they convey the intended
meaning to me. That said, I am very concerned by the sharp reaction
against them that these lists have seen and think that there are a lot
of very justified concerns that deserve answers of one sort or
another.

This sounds very sensible IMHO. Since it's not on by default and can
be turned off and on and any point, I think that addresses almost all
concerns as far as the desktop goes.

This is true but the test for images we include in our distribution
should not be this one. There are plenty of things on 60 foot
billboards in major western cities that I would would be embarrassed
to have on my desktop.

A desktop (and splash screens to a lesser/different degree) are much
more personal spaces than a billboard. The analogy is imperfect but
it's sort of like the difference between having a 60 foot billboard on
the side of the road and having someone installing a shrunk down
version of that billboard onto the wall of your living room. :)
