I've already tried and it works. Sorry for not posting it in the first

Now I tried doing all smtp commands manually, this is the session:
Trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Connected to my-smtp
Escape character is '^]'.
220 my-smtp ESMTP
helo foo
250 my-smtp
auth plain <my-base64-encoded-string-with-user-and-pass>
235 Authentication successful
mail from: <anything at anyhost>
250 Ok
rcpt to: <anything at anyhost>
250 Ok

As one can see, it's working fine.
