floppy/PCMCIA/CD install

I'd like to install Ubuntu on some notebooks which don't have integral 
CD drives to boot off of.  However, I do have a PCMCIA CD-ROM and 
external floppies for these notebooks.  I tried to download the debian 
installer floppies to use with Ubuntu, but I couldn't get it to work 
(maybe I was missing something obvious).

How can I install Ubuntu using a PCMCIA CD-ROM drive?
