Hi, folks

I am having problems booting ubuntu. when the computer starts booting up
it hangs when it gets to the follow point it the boot process:

starting hotplug filesystem:

the first few times this happened it also display the following error
message(s):

modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting pciehp
(/lib/modules/2.6.8.1-3-386/kernel/drivers/pci/hotplug/pciehp.ko) :
Operation not permitted

modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting shpchp
(/lib/modules/2.6.8.1-3-386/kernel/drivers/pci/hotplug/shpchp.ko) :
Operation not permitted

The only way around this problem, at first, was to keep rebooting the
computer until it booted "properly" (i.e i could see the login screen
and login).

I started searching on ubuntu mailing list, docs, faq and wiki for
information on this problem. I found that hotplug could be configured to
not load the modules by putting the the module names
in /etc/hotplug/blacklist. This seemed to help a little because the
error messages now don't appear but the system still hangs at the same
point.

After more searching on ubuntu mailing list, docs, faq and wiki i found
some kernel boot options that might help to (temporary) fix the problem.
the options i found were:

booting with the 'noapic' option
booting with the 'pci=noacpi' option
booting with the 'acpi=off' option

If anyone can help to solve this problem, help would be very very
greatly received and i really do like ubuntu and want to keep using it.

Thanks
