For what it's worth, I am having the same problem. It doesn't power-down 
the machine when I shutdown. My MB is an Abit KV8-MAX3 with an Athlon64 
2800+. [Just running 32bit Ubuntu for now, until ATI has 64bit drivers 
or I can afford an Nvidia].
I'm at work now, and don't have access to the machine, but the acpi 
modules all seem to be loaded ok.
