Changing the behavior of Nautilus

Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to change the way Nautilus behaves when
I click on folders. I personally don't like the way I get a new window
every time I click on a folder icon. I find myself spending a lot of my
time with one of my fingers on the ctrl key, chasing the window round
the desktop.
I know I can change the gconf key
/apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser
but this also seems to change the type of window I get, I don't see how
I can remove the toolbar from view. The key
/apps/nautilus/preferences/start_with_toolbar
doesn't seem to do it then in browse mode, and the windows that I do get
are always very large and in the top left. I prefer the smaller ones I
get when not in browse mode. I also miss the little pop up menu in the
bottom left that allows me to see up the tree I have descended in that
window.
I know these are small things, but they're small things that keep me on
the command line.
Thanks,
Dan.
